Dallas Ft. Worth Wedding Music Bands – All That Jazz
When a band can make music that’s good enough to qualify as REAL jazz..AND you can dance to it…now you have a fabulous wedding band!
But what, exactly, is a jazz band that performs for weddings and events?
I certainly hope it’s not something that’s too hip for the room!
Many jazz musicians think they have to be “out there.” They forget that this is music for the most important day of someone’s entire life — their wedding day!
I’m a native New Yorker, and a jazz singer. The only reason I call myself is a jazz singer is because the Los Angeles Times says I am — the term “jazz singer” is far too loosely assumed these days by people who haven’t the faintest notion of either what jazz is or how to sing anything!
I’ve heard some pretty awful music with the label “jazz” attached to it.
Jazz…which has its roots in blues and VERY early swing, ragtime, Dixieland music — and Cuban, European and classical music, as well — isn’t necessarily about how many notes someone can play, or how wierd they can get those notes to sound.
It’s about how much fun you can have when real musicians are making real music together.
Jazz music is loaded with opportunities to create meaningful improvisations from standards, like the ones that comprise the Great American Songbook.
SOme of the greatest standards were written by Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin and Rogers & Hart. Sometimes I think the songs these people wrote were created with weddings in mind!
A good jazz band can take a standard and make it their own – and your own. That’s where the real art of making memorable live music that uplifts every moment of a wedding comes in.
There’s no need to settle for less.
